A professional office where the National Registry team works

About the National Registry

A workers' compensation certification built for everyone who works with it — not just those who sell it.

Our background

The National Registry of Workers' Compensation Specialists began in 2003 as a specialized workers' compensation certification. Our founders saw that while several industry designations touched on workers' compensation, very few focused entirely on the subject.

Just as importantly, most existing designations were geared exclusively toward insurance producers. Yet human resource managers, government employees, attorneys, and many other professionals interact with workers' compensation regularly — and would benefit from dedicated training built for them too.

A focused certification, a broad audience

Our goal was simple: create a focused workers' compensation certification, and recognize those who pass the required examinations with a professional designation.

Focused by design

A curriculum devoted entirely to workers' compensation — the depth that a general insurance designation simply can't offer.

Beyond insurance

Many of our graduates work in human resources, corporate risk management, and medical fields — not only insurance.

An employer's choice

Organizations large and small choose the RWCS® certification as the training program of choice for employees who handle workers' compensation and risk management.

Our leadership

In accordance with our mission and values, the National Registry has appointed Porter T. Talbot, MSFS as Executive Director.

Porter T. Talbot, MSFS

Executive Director

Porter has more than 35 years of experience in the insurance industry. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of the State of New York and a Master of Science in Financial Services from The American College.

He has earned multiple professional designations, including Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU), Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC), Life Underwriters Training Council Fellow (LUTCF), Health Insurance Associate (HIA), Registered Workers' Compensation Specialist® (RWCS™), and Registered Cyber Liability Specialist® (RCLS™).

Obtaining the RWCS™ designation sets someone apart as a committed individual within the field of workers' compensation.
