Registered Workers’ Compensation Specialist (RWCS)™
To become a
Registered Workers’ Compensation Specialist (RWCS)™,
candidates must complete a self-study curriculum and comprehensive
examination. When these requirements have been met, The National
Registry of Workers’ Compensation Specialists™ awards
a diploma and the designation “Registered Workers’ Compensation
Specialist™,” or “RWCS™.” Registered
Workers’ Compensation Specialists are also required to adhere
to the NRWCS™ Code of Ethics and to fulfill annual continuing
education in order to maintain their designation.
Course
Description
The 12-hour
RWCS™ program consists of materials that provide the best
worker’s compensation education available, written by the
International Risk Management Institute, Inc. IRMI is a research
and publishing company focusing on risk management and insurance.
They take great pride in giving you up-to-date, objective, and practical
strategies and tactics to help you succeed and prosper in a changing
insurance and risk management environment.
The course is
designed to provide detailed information on workers' compensation
and employers' liability insurance. There is an overview of
the workers' compensation marketplace- the various ways workers'
compensation insurance is purchased in the states and alternatives
to insurance. The course will also cover the ins and outs
of workers compensation experience rating, and how employee leasing
affects workers' compensation requirements and how medical cost
containment works to reduce workers' compensation insurance costs.
Examination
The examination
is administered by WebCE, a leading internet testing company.
Once an individual has completed the NRWCS™ application and
paid the registration fee, he or she will be supplied a "Voucher
Number" and directed to our online testing center to
order their course materials and take the required examination.
The examination is a 50 question or less, multiple-choice test. It takes
approximately two hours to complete, however, there is no time limit.
Successful candidates must pass a minimum of 70% of the questions.
There is no additional testing fee to retake the exam.
Continuing
Education
In order to
maintain the Registered Workers' Compensation Specialist™
designation, RWCS™ graduates are required to complete a minimum
of 15 hours of continuing education in workers' compensation every
three years.
